Combat Explained
Short answer
Human Coen fights with directional sword combat: attacks aimed from different directions, directional blocks, parries, and a stamina pool. Fighting well generates Activation Charges, which pay for active abilities.
The directional system
Attacks come from directions and are defended by direction. This is the part of the game Rebel Wolves has talked about most defensively — the team has said it was worried players would not want to play as human Coen, and built the combat system specifically to make sure the day half of the character held up.
Activation Charges
Charges are earned by fighting successfully and spent on active abilities. The design consequence is that your power inside a fight scales with how the fight is going, rather than with a cooldown timer. Playing badly does not just cost health — it costs you access to your own kit.
Night combat
The vampire loop replaces the sword with claws and stamina discipline with blood. Healing comes from feeding, which makes sustain a narrative decision rather than a consumable. See vampire powers for the rest.
