Time & the deadline
Does Learning Skills Cost Time?
Some of it does. A preview reported a player missing a quest outcome because they trained instead.

Short answer
Yes, at least for part of the tree. Hands-on coverage describes spending time to learn skills and, as a direct result, missing another quest's outcome.
This is what separates this game's progression from a conventional RPG skill tree. Elsewhere, a skill point is free once earned. Here, converting a point into an ability can cost you the thing you were saving the time for.
Why this matters more than it sounds
- Your build and your route are the same problem. You cannot optimise one without the other.
- A power spike bought on day 6 may be worth more than the same spike on day 24 — or may cost you a character who died while you were training.
- Two builds with identical end states can have very different narrative outcomes depending on when the training was scheduled.
Select the abilities you want and see the training time your route has to absorb.
