Who Are Brencis's Officers in Blood of Dawnwalker?
Short answer
Brencis holds Vale Sangora through three officers — Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe. Each runs their own territory and their own operation with an agenda of their own, and none of them waits politely while you take those operations apart. As your Infamy rises, Brencis answers with edicts: bounty hunters, heavier patrols, and city lockdowns that cut you off from merchants. The reactions are triggered by your success, not your failure.
For a site built around a time budget this is the most interesting thing revealed all month, and it is easy to miss because it looks like flavour. It is not flavour. It is a feedback loop that puts a price on progress.
The three officers
Until now these three were names on a cast list. Our records carried them as role not yet confirmed, because that is all anyone could actually source. The overview trailer changed that: they are Brencis's lieutenants, and the valley is divided between them.
| Officer | What they hold | Reported disposition |
|---|---|---|
| Ambrus | The blood supply — its movement through the valley, and the people it is taken from | Ambitious. Reported to be outrunning a humble human past |
| Bakir | Violence. The one sent when a problem is answered rather than administered | Wanted blood before he was turned, and likes an audience |
| Xanthe | The esoteric. Reportedly the eldest of the three | Detached. Chasing something past the valley rather than in it |
The useful shape here is that the three are not interchangeable minibosses. They are three different kinds of pressure — a logistics problem, a combat problem, and something harder to name — and a route that is good against one of them is not automatically good against the next.
Edicts: how the regime answers you
Infamy is the global reputation track — how known and how feared you are in the valley, kept separate from what any individual thinks of you. It rises through killing, through theft you are caught at, and through attacking Brencis's organisation.
What the trailer and the Game Informer interview add is what sits on the other end of that track. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz describes Brencis enacting edicts meant, in plain terms, to make Coen's life harder — sending bounty hunters after you, putting more military patrols on the street, and putting a city on lockdown. Coverage of the lockdown notes the practical sting: it makes merchants hard to reach.
- Bounty hunters sent after you specifically.
- Heavier patrols on the streets.
- City lockdown, restricting movement in and out.
- Harder access to shops, as a consequence of the lockdown.
And the officers are part of the same machinery. The trailer's framing is that they will not stand idle while you dismantle their operations — the regime escalates as you win, rather than sitting still and waiting to be taken apart in order.
What this changes for a route
The edicts do not bill you directly. There is no real-time clock, and an edict is not itself a costed action — nothing is deducted the moment one is proclaimed. They bill you indirectly, and that is worse, because an indirect cost does not show up in a plan until you are already paying it.
- Front-load the errands that need a town. Merchants, trainers and anything requiring free movement get more expensive once a lockdown lands. Do them while the valley is still calm.
- Treat a high-Infamy run as a deliberate build, not an accident. It buys real things — the people opposing Brencis take you seriously, and intimidation opens up. It is a legitimate route with a known bill attached.
- Expect the bill to arrive late. Infamy earned on day six is paid for across days seven to thirty. The cheapest-looking day is often the one that sets the price of the rest.
- Do not plan an officer order yet. That the order matters is a reasonable guess and nothing more. It goes in the planner when someone with a retail build has seen it, not before.
Lay out your thirty days and thirty nights and see what the budget actually allows. The planner does the arithmetic; the decisions above are the part it cannot do for you.
Open the 30-Day Planner →What we still do not know
- The Infamy values at which each edict fires, and whether an edict can be lifted once it has.
- Whether edicts are regional or valley-wide, and whether a lockdown expires on its own.
- Whether each officer tracks your interference separately, or whether it all feeds one number.
- Where each officer's seat is, and where Coen first meets them.
- Whether the officers can be avoided entirely on a route that goes straight at Brencis.
Every one of those is re-checked against the retail build from 3 September. Until then the pages say so on their face, which is the whole contract: see how we grade data.
For the full picture rather than this one system, start with everything confirmed so far, or read how Infamy works on its own.
Frequently asked questions
The questions people are actually searching for, answered from confirmed sources.
- Who are Brencis's officers in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
- Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe. The overview trailer establishes them as Brencis's three lieutenants, each holding their own territory and running their own operation within Vale Sangora, with an agenda of their own rather than a shared one.
- What are edicts in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
- Edicts are measures Brencis enacts in response to your Infamy, specifically to make Coen's life harder. Creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz names bounty hunters sent after the player, more military patrols on the street, and putting a city on lockdown, which in turn makes merchants hard to reach.
- Do Brencis's lieutenants react to what you do?
- Yes. The overview trailer's framing is that the officers do not stand idle while you dismantle their operations — the regime escalates in response to your progress rather than waiting to be taken apart in order.
- Do you have to kill all three officers before Brencis?
- Not confirmed, and there is reason to doubt it. The game does not gate Brencis behind a fixed chain of main quests — an early attempt on him is explicitly permitted — so the officers are not a hard gate. Whether the order you deal with them in changes the finale has not been stated by anyone.
- Does high Infamy cost you time?
- Not directly. There is no real-time clock and an edict is not itself a costed action, so nothing is deducted when one is proclaimed. It costs you time indirectly: heavier patrols, lockdowns and restricted merchant access make every objective inside an affected town more expensive to reach — and clearing the roadside camps an edict puts in your way is itself reported to charge time.
- Is high Infamy a bad thing in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
- No. It is a build decision rather than a morality meter. High Infamy makes groups opposed to Brencis more likely to trust you, because it is proof you are not working for the regime, and intimidation is reported to become easier.
The officers' standing is established by the 13 August overview trailer, whose audio is now carried in a compilation of Bandai Namco-supplied footage and has been heard directly. The same compilation adds developer-narrated walkthroughs in which Ambrus's blood operations are raided and Xanthe is fought. The edict detail is quoted from a Game Informer interview. The character dispositions are lore coverage and are marked as such rather than treated as confirmed. Corrected on 31 August 2026: the planning section previously said exploration and combat do not spend time, which review play has narrowed — roaming is free, clearing a marked point of interest is not. Verified against the retail build from 3 September 2026.
